Traditionally, monks don't look up or down, only straight ahead, as they try to think lofty thoughts (or better yet, no thoughts at all). Certainly this scowling monk was oblivious to the "nooddles" advertised above him, though it was late afternoon and by law he hadn't eaten for hours.
