An elementary school teacher in Nong Bua Lumphu named Wisut sent me this picture of himself with his students.
His university degree means he can earn almost $300 per month. He works overtime for free. Wisut sleeps in a drafty little house on a muddy road about ten minutes from school by ancient motorbike. Every day he is required to wear a different uniform.
Wisut wrote me that he wants to spend the rest of his life in his village, teaching and being a resource. He thinks someday he might be able to get a used car.
I wanted you to see this photo because in America the teacher would be facing the students to make sure they participated. No need in Thailand. You can also see that every student, without exception, is smiling, and not for the camera.
