Riding Slowly, Living Small

This old lady, a bit sour about something, is riding very
slowly home, thanks to the efforts of an equally old man.
You won't find many runner-powered rickshaws in Thailand, where sputtering three-wheel tuk-tuks tear down streets at perpetual top speed. There do remain a few bicycle-powered people haulers. I rode one slowly around Chiang Rai one morning, seeing the sights with a Thai friend. The elderly driver kept to a comfortable walking speed and occasionally pointed out a temple or historic spot.  At first I battled shame that the old man had to supply muscle power so I didn't have to walk. Then his easy assumption of the role of teacher and guide let us connect with comfort.
