Thai Spirit provides a template for life lived small. The Great Recession has made a simpler life both inevitable and welcome. My teachers are Thai friends whose Buddhism is full of color and mystery, but utterly practical too. This blog is a tribute to the best of Thai Spirit and a place of dialogue about how to grow small. Living Small: Rolling Your Own
This woman is the auntie of a retired Thai kickboxer we know, and she can party. She celebrates very special occasions by hand-building a monster cigarette and pretending to smoke it. She even rolled smokes for her American visitors to take home. If everyone who smoked did it about once a month like auntie, and didn't inhale, we could relax about tobacco. Part of living small is wise moderation and the middle way, avoiding extremes. I didn't ask, but I'll wager auntie takes a sip of Mekong Whiskey from time to time.
