Cooking for Friends: Living Small

We were hungry in Bangkok: two Americans and six or seven Thai friends. No problem, we went to the room of the Thai who lived closest and stopped at a fresh market on the way.  


For cooking we needed no gas, no electricity, just a little clay pot for charcoal topped by another clay pot for simmering the fresh herbs and spices.

In a few minutes chicken soup was bubbling and a big salad was almost ready. Living small, living cheap, and eating like royalty.


Vin is a professor you've met here before. Bas, lighting the charcoal above, is medical and spends his days in the operating room.
